Toronto Operetta Theatre presents the Canadian Premiere of the Spanish zarzuela Los Gavilanes (The Sparrow Hawks) by Jacinto Guerrero.

The Spanish Zarzuela Los Gavilanes (the Sparrow Hawks) by Jacinto Guerrero closes the 2015-2016 Season with four performances from April 27 to May 1, 2016.

Los Gavilanes deals with the return to Spain of a succcessful landowner in Peru. Jacinto Guerrero adds a mixture of new world sounds to his compositional range that enriches the zarzuela’s musical profile and brings forth a powerful Spanish identity to a score filled with melody and emotional resonance.

Los Gavilanes features Miriam Khalil, Ernesto Ramirez and the return to stage of Guillermo Silva-Marin, as the aging Juan. The cast also includes emerging artists Sarah Forestieri, Diego Catalá and Angela María Sánchez. Conducted by Larry Beckwith with stage direction by Virginia Reh, this Canadian Premiere becomes a highlight of the season and an event not to be missed.

Sung in Spanish with English surtitles and English dialogue.
