10th anniversary of the MacKenzie-Papineau monument

The Mackenzie–Papineau Battalion or Mac-Paps were a battalion of Canadians who fought as part of the XV International Brigade on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War.

On the 20th of October 2011, marking the tenth anniversary of the unveiling of the MacKenzie-Papineau monument at Rideau Falls Park, the Spanish Embassy organized, with the kind collaboration of the National Capital Commission, a tribute to that Canadian regiment which fought in the Spanish Civil War.

On that occasion, the Canadian citizen Jules Paivio, the last living member or the Mac-Pap brigade, was granted the Spanish citizenship.
