The goal of the Montreal World Film Festival (Montreal International Film Festival) is to encourage cultural diversity and understanding between nations, to foster the cinema of all continents by stimulating the development of quality cinema, to promote filmmakers and innovative works, to discover and encourage new talents, and to promote meetings between cinema professionals from around the world.

This year there is an important presence of Spanish cinema at the festival:

First Films World Competition

  1. Schimbare. Directed by Álex Sampayo (Spain). Luis and Elvira travel to Romania after contact an Eastern European criminal organization. Near their destination, they receive a call that requires them to change the route. They must stop in Budapest and make a collection. Everything seems simple until they discover that it’s an eight-year-old girl. From this moment they will have to make the hardest decision of their lives. Stick to the plan or release the girl.Decide what they decide, someone will die.
  2. Todos están muertos (They are all dead). Directed by Beatriz Sanchis (Spain, Mexico, Germany). If you saw Lupe, 35, in her bathrobe and slippers, you would never imagine that back in the ‘80s she was a pop star. She and her brother Diego made up the band Groenlandia, whose first album was a huge hit. But Lupe has turned her back on the life of touring and concerts. She is wholly dependent on the mother Paquita and has a teenager son, Pancho, who hates her. Luckily, her mother, Paquita, a superstitious woman with a heart of gold, is there to do the shopping, to deal with her frequent crises and to do what matters more: be a mother to Pancho. But Paquita is running out of time…

Student Film Festival - International Section

In addition to the program, the Spanish actress Ana Torrent will be part of the Jury together with Sergio Castellitto (President of the Jury), Rachid Bouchareb, Andréanne Bournival, Fridrik Thor Fridriksson and Jane Zhang.
